Wieland buys heat exchanger company Onda - Cooling Post
GERMANY/ITALY: German copper tube manufacturer Wieland has acquired Onda SpA, the Italian-based manufacturer of advanced heat exchangers.
Onda operates two manufacturing plants in Italy at Mussolente and Lonigo, one in Kangasala, Finland, and one in Delaware, Ohio, USA. The plants in Mussolente are dedicated to the production of brazed plate and plate and frame heat exchangers and to the manufacture of large industrial vessels as well as mechanical machining. Total manufacturing area is approximately 23,000m2.
“Onda is a preferred partner for major chiller manufacturers and fits perfectly to Wieland as the acquisition adds capabilities and capacities to Wieland’s existing shell and tube heat exchanger operations,” said Wieland Group CEO Dr Erwin Mayr. “It also expands our product portfolio to include brazed plate and plate frame heat exchangers, as well as air heat exchangers including dry coolers and air condensers,” he added.
Wieland sees strong growth potential for shell and tube heat exchangers as well as electronics cooling equipment. Main drivers are the rapidly increasing demand for chillers to cool data centres and increasing power densities of electronics. It sees “great potential” in combining Onda’s broad product portfolio and high-capacity heat exchanger capabilities to produce industrial heat pumps.
Onda will become part of Wieland’s Thermal Solutions business unit.
The latest acquisition follows Wieland’s purchase of another Italian heat exchanger specialist, Provides Metalmeccanica Srl, in 2022.
