Major Meat Recall Expands, Louisiana Schools at Risk

Oct 17, 2024

Louisiana residents were informed earlier this week that a significant meat recall was issued, recalling millions of pounds of meat and poultry products from stores across the state and nationwide.

This recall has now expanded, adding an additional 1,779,040 pounds of products to the 9,986,245 already being recalled.

11,765,285 pounds of meat products used in premade salads, wraps, sandwiches, frozen meals, and more have now been recalled due to listeria contamination.

The FSIS has stated that they are continuing to gather information about the distribution of these products and are committed to ensuring that consumers have the necessary details to identify and discard any recalled products.

FSIS also extended this recall to schools because products included in the updated recall were distributed to schools nationwide.

At this time, FSIS has not released a school distribution list, but they are working to add it to the recall release as soon as possible.

Here is the updated list of labels and products.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service initiated a recall for approximately 9,986,245 pounds of products produced by BrucePac, an Oklahoma-based company known for its pre-cooked meats, including chicken, beef, turkey, and pork.

BrucePac products are also distributed under other brand names, such as Urban Bruce, City Grillers, and several private labels. The products included in the recall were manufactured between June 19th and October 8th 2024. There is a strong chance that many of these products are still on store shelves or in consumer's homes.

Louisiana consumers are advised to check for establishment numbers "51205" or "P-51205" located inside or under the USDA mark of inspection. All affected items should be thrown away immediately.

BrucePac products can be found in most major retail grocery stores and restaurants, and some food service providers distribute them.

A list of specific stores affected in Louisiana has not been released yet, but their products are commonly found in supermarkets and delis that offer ready-to-eat-meat products.

This bacterium is often found in contaminated food, especially ready-to-eat meats and unpasteurized dairy products.

Listeriosis primarily affects high-risk populations, including pregnant women, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
